Carlos Baleba finally comments on Manchester United interest

Brighton’s midfielder Carlos Baleba has spoken about the transfer rumours linking him to Manchester United for the first time and also answered the criticism about his worse performances this season.

In the summer the Cameroonian was strongly connected with a move to Old Trafford because Ruben Amorim really wanted to strengthen the midfield. But the transfer didnt happen because Brighton asked for way too much money — something like £100 million.

This season Baleba only played full 90 minutes once in the Premier League and got subbed off at half-time four times already. Head coach Fabian Hürzeler said that all the talk about his future is probably distracting him. But the 20-year-old player thinks different:

“I dont think it affected me negatively, but I definetly felt a lot of pressure. When the season started I wanted to play on the same level as last year. Did I put too much pressure on myself? Yeah, I think so. But honestly I think its good. Now I just have to get through this little difficult period… and keep working hard” — the player said.

Baleba played his last match for Brighton before leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations in the 0:2 defeat against Liverpool. At the same time Manchester United keep looking for midfield options and are also considering Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace and Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
