Manchester United legend Michael Carrick has officially taken charge of the first team until the end of the current season. It has become clear that the appointment of Carrick as the new leader may finally be the catalyst needed by Manchester United to turn their season around and challenge for a place within the Premier Leagues top four.
It has come to light that Manchester United announced officially on 13th Jan that they have agreed to an agreement with 44 year old Michael Carrick to lead the first team until the end of the season. To assist in the process of getting the team back on track, Carrick appointed some experienced individuals to help him manage the team; Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion, Jonny Evans and Craig Mawson.
The decision to sack Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim followed his departure from Manchester United on 5th Jan. After sacking Amorim, the position of interim boss went to former player Darren Fletcher. Under Fletcher, Manchester United were unable to achieve victory: A 2-2 draw against Burnley in the Premier League and a 1-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup. Fletcher has now returned to manage the Under-18s while Carrick must stabilize the senior team.
