Classy Move by Club Leadership After Big Defeat
Manchester City’s leadership have done something relatively rare and classy to make up for that big loss to Bodø/Glimt in Norway. The club – actually the players — will be refunding the cost of every ticket purchased by fans who traveled to Bodø to watch them lose 3-1 to Bodø/Glimt in the Champions League. This shows just how much the club respects the commitment of its supporters, especially after such an embarrassing result as this.
What Happened During the Match
The 7th Round of the Group Stage was completed on Wednesday, with Manchester City losing 1-3 to the Norwegian Side. Although Ryan Cherki scored Manchester City’s only goal, the team were unable to overcome the deficit created early in the match. Unfortunately, Rodri saw red (received his second yellow card) in the 62nd minute, which completely turned the tide of the match. Again, Bodø/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin was solid and showed again why he is rated so high among Europe’s elite.
As stated in the clubs official statement, signed by the four captains – Bernardo Silva, Rúben Dias, Rodri, and Erling Haaland — the club said:
“We realize the sacrifices our fans go through to follow us home and away; we will never forget this. Our fans are the best in the world, and we understand that many of our fans traveled to Bodø to support us in the freezing cold while suffering along with us through a difficult time on the field. Reimbursing the ticket price for those fans that did travel to Bodø is the least we can do.”

A total of 374 fans will be reimbursed for their ticket prices, as a gesture like this is rarely seen from top clubs. It gives us a clear example of how important Manchester City believe their fan base is to them. To English supporters, it is not just about the money – it is a genuine appreciation to their loyal supporters for continuing to support the team through the ups and downs.
Group Standings and What Is Ahead
Although the loss in Norway was not just an embarrassment, it has tightened up the competition in the group. As it stands currently, City are in seventh position with 13 points, therefore the last fixture in the group against Galatasaray on January 28th at Etihad Stadium is a huge opportunity for Pep Guardiola’s side to recover and earn a better standing in the fight for the knockout stages.
Although Manchester City has had to give out few ticket refunds due to poor performances, this effort shows how much the club appreciates its supporters and will continue to demonstrate loyalty to them.
This week the whole football world will be watching Manchester City play a massive home game that will determine the outcome of the group. The fans are still supporting the team, and Manchester City is going above and beyond to maintain that relationship and create unity within the entire City Family.
